No way. That's insane...
So I today I got some great news regarding the film I worked on last winter. Great news, indeed.
As coincidence would have it, when I was reading the email, it was the last email I checked before I head out to Michaels to get the poster from said movie framed.
I was in a rush because my pops was with me and I wanted to get the frame set up before we went to the bar to watch the Redskin game (which they lost even though it looked like that fucking runningback for Oakland fumbled, but such is life).
Anywho, we get to Michaels (and I had a 40% off coupon, which I couldn't use) and I throw the poster on the counter, pick out a frame, pic out some matting and wait for the total.
$375
Read that again.
Three hundred. Seventy-five dollars.
I looked at my father and we both started laughing. Hell, the girl who was helping me laughed too.
I said, "No way. That's insane."
She agreed, so she suggested I go buy a frame off the rack and she'll re-run the price. She told me what size frame I needed and off I went.
I came back with a frame and she did the figures again.
$98
MUCH more like what I had expected to spend. But today Michaels was having a sale. Spend a hundred bucks on custom framing, get fifty off!
I had $98.
FUCK.
I asked the girl behind the counter what I could do. She said she was already on it. (and on a side note, she completely rocked. Patient and out for me. Kudos to Michaels).
She finally suggested that I get another mat for the poster (bringing the total mat count to three). I thought it would be too much, but after it was thrown on, it looked great.
Final cost?
$80
It won't be ready for three weeks, but that's cool. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

That rocks. Did you consider stock frames, though? I got one for the poster I bought for my parents at AC Moore (same idea, a&c store) for like $40. Some in the right size were as cheap as $25-30. And most were under $100. (They didn't want anything fancy, so it's just a basic, color-coordinated one, though.)
I'm going to get a different frame for my poster, I think. We'll have to compare. I'm thinking of one of the stock ones, but I'm tempted to go all out, too. Trouble is, I'd love to get people to sign it, and I don't want to have to take apart a custom frame.
As for the game, well, at least you got to see it - I was watching via NFL.com's Gamecenter. So I couldn't tell you if the Raiders finally got a break or the Skins just got screwed again. But I say, JUST WIN BABY! Hah!

A frame off the rack is a stock frame, no? :)
I personally think the Skins were screwed, but not nearly as bad in the Tampa game.
But I'm not as pissed because in the Oakland game they did it to themselves. When you don't get pressure on the QB all damn day, you have no one to blame but yourself.
I'm not looking forward to the San Diego game.
Why don't you pussies just cut your own mats? Christ. I need to start a framing business. You know how many mats I had to cut when I was in college?
I have a recent framing story, i guess will just share it in my new blog though.
Frames are expensive, custom or stock. But, you can find great deals if you are patient, look around and get creative. I finally got all of my stuff from HF framed, and in the end, it cost me less than $100. That included some really nice wood/glass frames for the Devil's Rejects and Phantasm poster.
What I did, was go to places like Target and Walmart, and see what they had on sale. All of these places sell big ass frames for putting multiple family photos in. I found two of them that were the right size for the DR and Phantasm posters, both were on sale, and all I had to when I got home was take out the border matting that seperated it into holding a dozen photos.
Each one cost less than $20 on sale. For kicks, I checked Michael's when my wife was there, and the same size custom frame would've cost me about $300 each, going the cheap way. Both posters look like they were custom framed.
I did skip the matting though. Matting is for people that like really big pictures. It can look nice, but so does letting the poster stand on its own, sometimes.
However, if this was my movie, I don't see how you could get it mounted already. I would want everyone to sign it, especially the screenwriter. After all the names are on it, then I'd get it framed and when you think about it, wouldn't you want to spend an arm and a leg on it? This is a poster for your movie!
I had absolutely no problem spending 80 bucks on it. I had budgeted 150 because I wanted it to look good, and paying someone to do it will pretty much guarantee that it will look better than I could.
I agree about the signing of it. I do want everyone involved to sign it, but I have no clue when that is going to happen and I would rather put it up now and cross that bridge when I come to it.
How was your tea?
THAT'S great news regarding the movie you worked on? I'm waiting to hear that it's gonna come out soon, or you saw it and it's great, or it was picked up by Lion's Gate.
What you mean is that you have great news regarding the MOVIE POSTER for the movie you worked on.
Sheesh.
So I today I got some great news regarding the film I worked on last winter. Great news, indeed.
See, that's topic one.
As coincidence would have it, when I was reading the email, it was the last email I checked before I head out to Michaels to get the poster from said movie framed.
And that is topic two.
They are related, but they are two seperate topics.
Topic one - I heard good news about the movie.
Topic two - On a related note, I was getting my poster framed.
Not rocket science here, Aric.

Stewie,
The tea was great, thanks for asking!
Don't pay attention to Aric, he's a h8r.
Your pal,
Renaldo

A frame off the rack is a stock frame, no? :)
But you're still getting it matted and stuff by them, right?
It won't be ready for three weeks, but that's cool. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.
A stock frame that you buy, take home, and put the thing in yourself, was what I was thinking of.
And I understood the difference between topic one and topic two perfectly, if that makes you feel any better.
I would want everyone to sign it, especially the screenwriter. After all the names are on it, then I'd get it framed
Didn't know which of us you were talking to with that one, Renaldo. But that's my thinking - if I get a stock frame, I can just pop the back off and take the poster out when it's time to go get sigs. Custom framing involves backing and nails and stuff, thus:
Trouble is, I'd love to get people to sign it, and I don't want to have to take apart a custom frame.
It's a stock frame that will be matted and put together by them.
It will be cake to remove it when the time comes.
I can't believe all the conversation you guys are having over FRAMES.
It's giving me teh ghey.
I would want everyone to sign it, especially the screenwriter. After all the names are on it, then I'd get it framed
Didn't know which of us you were talking to with that one, Renaldo.
Would I be telling you that you should have the screenwriter sign it? Or would I be flattering you by telling Stewie I would definitely want the screenwriter to sign it?
I think you know the answer, young padwan framer.

Oh, now I gotta read 'em? Fuck that! They don't pay me to read them, just to respond!
